The rest of my day flew by. All I could think about was Christopher and stressed about the ‘what if’s.’ As I sat in the car headed to Christopher’s, I did my best to get out of my head. It wasn’t going to be easy. I haven’t given myself to someone like this for a while. It didn’t matter how strong of a person I was, having my heartbroken was something I didn’t want to go through again.

My mom flashed across my mind. I started to remember the days when she would take me out to the beach as a little girl. We tried to go as often as possible as I got older, but when she became ill, those beach days became fewer and farther between. When chemo started, those days ended altogether.

Thoughts about my mom still made my heart clench. Then, I thought about my dad. What could I say about Christopher to cause him to accept our relationship? Relationship . . . I wasn’t even sure what it was actually, nevertheless I planned to find out that night.
